Step 1: Installing the Site Tracking Tag

*SharpSpring Marketing Automation Users: The SharpSpring Ads site tracking tag is automatically embedded in the SharpSpring tracking tag*

To install our tracking tag, you will need access to the backend of your website. The tag will need to be placed on each page of your site.


Q: Why do I need to install the tracking tag?

A: Without installing the tracking tag, our platform will not be able to track any of the visits to your website. Tracking the visits to your site is how our platform compiles an audience for you to retarget.

Q: Where do I locate the tracking tag?

A: To access the tracking tag, simply navigate over to Settings and open the Tracking Code tab:


1. From your dashboard, click Settings -> Tracking Code.

2. This will bring up a page with your Javascript tracking tag. It will look something like this:

Copy this code and paste it anywhere before the closing </head> tag of your site. The tag needs to be installed on every page of your website.

Make sure the code is saved and published to your live website. Once installed, it will take our system 6-8 hours to recognize the tag and alert you that we have begun tracking your site visitors. You can also check back to the Site Tracking Tag page to see if data is being received. If you don't get an e-mail or see data on your tag page or audience page, double check that you've placed the tag in your web site code and pushed that code live.  If you use Google Chrome, this browser extension can tell you if the tag is firing, plus other useful information.
